Many people are surprised that acupuncture can be performed on animals. Pets will generally accept acupuncture very well and rarely require sedation.
Pet acupuncture is particularly effective in treating chronic pain conditions such as arthritis, back pain, acute muscle and ligament strains. It can also be an effective treatment in non-painful conditions such as allergies, wound healing and stress related disorders such as cystitis and over grooming in cats.
The usual course of treatment is once a week for four weeks. A session typically lasts 30-40 minutes and 80% of animals will respond to pet acupuncture by the fourth treatment.
